June 25, 2017 – From the Desk of the Pastor

Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Mercy:

Fr. Marty JacintoWhen I came here in 2001 fresh from being ordained for the Archdiocese of Newark the good relationship between our two parishes of Our Lady of Mercy and Our Lady of Sorrows has been in existence. It felt like these two had been linked forever! But no, these two parishes had become officially linked in 2004 with the installation of Father Jack Cryan as a pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows in addition to his being a pastor of Our Lady of Mercy. When this linkage took place there was no melodramatic nor startling kind of feeling that happened. We just continue the good things we have been sharing with and doing the work we have been doing together. Well, must “all good things come to an end?” I don’t think so! I don’t believe in that idiomatic expression “All Good Things Come To An End.” (Let Nelly Furtado sing that for young lovers who break up.) The linkage of our two communities will cease starting next week (July 1st) but the good things we have been doing for each other will not. We will be with Our Lady of Sorrows in spirit and will remain in our hearts forever. And in the name of Our Lady of Mercy Church, I thank Our Lady of Sorrows for being part of us. From the Sisters (Sister Alice, Sister Elise, Sister Carol, Sister Luke, Sister Uchena and those sisters who have gone on in the next life but had been at OLS) to the Trustees, Finance and Pastoral Council, Frank Cinelli (and his Dad Dominic Cinelli in heaven), catechists, volunteers, members of different ministries, altar servers, different music directors, choir members and parishioners THANK YOU wholeheartedly! It was really great to have known you and being with you for a long time. Know that we love you all! Love your new shepherd Father Tom Roberts. Please keep us in your prayers as well. This is not a “goodbye,” but a “see you later…”

God bless you all!

Love,
+Father Marty
