Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Mercy,
I hope this finds you safe and well.
It was nice to see all of you who came to join us for the celebration of the Eucharist this past weekend. It warms my heart to see you again after a long time of being away. I applaud you for following the protocols and safety measures we have in place. I urge you to continue to do that for your safety, and that of others. By doing so, you are putting into action what our gospel is telling us this weekend. You are seeking after what you treasure, namely, being with your fellow Catholics and deepening your relationship with the Lord. As long as we do what we must to stay safe, we will all be comfortable in celebrating Mass together here at OLM.
I ask you to continue praying for our safety. May scientists find a cure and an effective vaccine for the coronavirus. May social injustice and racism soon end so there may be peace in our country and throughout the world. Pray also for our leaders, that the Holy Spirit guide them in doing what is right and just and working in peace and harmony for the common good. And let us also pray for ourselves, that we will have more patience in dealing with all the turmoil around us and our differences.
I ask you also to check out everything in our bulletin, website (olmnj.org), and Facebook page. We work hard in posting information and other events there. I thank those who constantly read and browse our website. Please help disseminate the information to your family and friends. Let them know, most especially, that we are open.
Starting August 3, the weekday Masses will be changed to 7 am and 8:30 am, Monday to Friday. On Saturday there will only be one Mass at 8:30 am. The 8:30 am Mass will be live streamed. There will be no 11:30 am Mass!
Note that the weekend Masses remain the same, that is, 5 pm on Saturday, 8 am, 10 am and 12 noon on Sunday. The 10 am Mass will be live streamed.
Finally, thank you for your unceasing prayers and financial support. Both are highly appreciated. You surely love your parish.
Take care of yourselves by staying safe and enjoy the rest of your day.
Love,
Father Marty
Please remember to fulfill your pledge to WE ARE LIVING STONES CAPITAL CAMPAIGN and to the SHINING THE LIGHT OF CHRIST 2020 ANNUAL APPEAL. Your generosity helps to fund Archdiocesan programs and also benefits Our Lady of Mercy Parish.
OLM Paycheck Protection Program Loan
A few days ago, it was reported that nonprofit entities, including houses of worships, received federal loans via the government’s Paycheck Protection Program (“PPP”). The objective of PPP is to help both businesses and nonprofit groups defray their expenses during the Covid 19 pandemic wherein their revenue and collection sources substantially declined. The loans will be forgiven, subject to certain conditions, if they are used for wages, rent and/or utilities. Without this federal aid, many entities would be expected to cease operations and/or lay off employees.
Just like thousands of religious organizations, including Catholic dioceses, parishes and schools, Our Lady of Mercy Church (“OLM”) applied for and received loan proceeds from the government that will be used as needed. As per standard reporting practice, additional information will be included in the next release of OLM’s annual financial report in a few months.
It is important to note, however, that OLM is still experiencing a significant drop in its weekly collection and thus will continue to need and rely on the generous support of its parishioners.
