September 16, the OLM Local Chapter of Jersey City Together (JCT) sponsored a meeting in the Maria Room to identify the issues of concern that residents feel need to be addressed in order to improve the quality of life in our area.
The top three issues identified by those at the meeting were (1) Foul Odors and Loud Noise Impacting Quality of Life. (2) Parking Problems at Specific Locations, Package and Mail Theft, Lack of Police Presence (3) Poor Response from Animal Control concerning racoons and other pests.
In response to these concerns the OLM Chapter of JCT is in the process of organizing a meeting tentatively set for Tuesday evening, December 3, at our parish. At the meeting we hope to have the following representatives present: the head of Animal Control, The South District Police Commander, the Director of the Department of Public Works, and the Director of the Parking Authority.
In preparation for the meeting of December 3, we would like to have volunteers walk through our neighborhood and identify areas where parking is especially difficult. Even more importantly those volunteers would identify areas that might be used or re-purposed in order to provide additional parking spaces. We need volunteers to walk the walk and take a look!
Volunteers will meet at 10 am at OLM Church on Saturday, November 23, and then spend an hour walking through the neighborhood and identifying problems and possible solutions. The information gathered will then be presented to the appropriate city agencies. Those who were at the meeting of September 16 will be contacted by email to help prepare for the December 3 meeting. If you are not contacted, or were not at the September meeting, and would like to be involved please send an email to olm.chapter.jct@gmail.com
