Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Mercy:
This weekend is Archdiocesan Annual Appeal called “Sharing God’s Blessings.” This is the time of the year when we (the church) are knocking on the door of every family in the parish to ask for support to the different works and ministries in the Archdiocese of Newark listed on the brochures that are available for you (in your pews or at the entrances of the church.) Last year we were blessed (both communities) to have achieved one hundred percent of our goal. So, my dear parishioners, we are hoping and praying that we will be blessed again to do the same. And this will only happen through your generosity. At each mass this weekend we will tell you how much our goal is. Please be generous once again.
On a different note, for those of you are not involved yet, please make extra effort to participate in every parish’s ministry and events. It is great to see you doing something to make our community vibrant and alive. Check out the bulletin for what is needed. There are lots of different ministries already in place (but we need more volunteers) and new ones. For example, we are aware that this is a community with so many of you who are in the medical field. We encourage you to please sign up for our “ wellness ministry.”
Next week is the beginning of Lenten Season. March 1st is Ash Wednesday. The Holy Name Society at Our Lady of mercy has a scheduled Stations of the Cross in the bulletin. May we strive to work on our holiness to attain eternal life.
Last but not the least, I welcome our newly baptized babies to Our Lady of Mercy Church: Arlan Noah Capinguian, Alonzo Eldrich Flores and Julian Carlos Carzon Cardines! We assure you of our prayers that you may grow in love and wisdom of God with your parents and godparents.
Thank you and God bless us all!

OLM Chapter Meeting of Jersey City Together
As residents of Jersey City we care about our city because it is our home. As Catholics we care about our city because Jesus calls us love our neighbors and to be concerned about their welfare.
One way to show your concern for your city and for your neighbors is to be part of the OLM Local Chapter of Jersey City Together (JCT).
Jersey City Together (JCT) is a city wide organization made up of more than 30 religious communities including OLM. The organization is currently addressing several areas to improve life in our city, namely, Policing and Public Safety, Education and Youth, Housing and Homelessness, and the upcoming Property Revaluation.
Here at in our part of the city, we have established a Local Chapter of JCT to deal with issues of neighborhood concern. This OLM Chapter has been addressing the issue of illegal truck traffic on local roads. Thanks to the work of the Chapter significant steps have been taken to solve this problem.
We invite you and all interested residents of our area to the next meeting of the OLM Chapter of JCT. It will take place tomorrow, Monday, February 27, at 7:30 pm in the Maria Room directly below the church. We encourage you to attend and to invite your neighbors. The Chapter Meeting is open to all those who care about our neighborhood.
During the meeting you will hear the latest news about the efforts of the Local Chapter and about the city-wide work of JCT. You will also have an opportunity to express your concerns, then working together we will decide the next issues we need to address to improve life in our neighborhood. The meeting will end by 9 pm. Please join us. You can make a difference.
There is a new ministry in our parish called “Wellness Ministry!” What this ministry does is a service in our parish to stay ready and be alert to any possible emergency at every mass or parish events. We need people in the medical field to be part of this ministry. You can use your God-given gift and expertise in giving first aid and be the first responders to our people in need of medical attention and help. So, I am calling doctors, nurses, physical therapists, EMTs, and others to please step up and be ministers. There are sign up forms at both entrances of the church. You can also leave your name and phone number in the parish office or see Bernadette Cordon or Father Marty.
