– Welcome video from the Archdiocese of Newark –
Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Mercy,
I hope this finds you safe and well.
First of all, please note that our weekday Mass schedule changes to 7 am and 8:30 am starting tomorrow, Monday, August 3. The 8:30 am Mass will be live streamed.
As we know, our researchers and health care professionals have not yet found a cure or an effective vaccine for coronavirus. We continue to urge you to take precautionary measures and follow what our leaders are telling us to do for our safety and protection. We need to cooperate and take this pandemic seriously.
Looking around in the church these past few weeks, I have noticed, that as requested, those returning to Mass are wearing face coverings and maintaining a safe distance. Kindly tell those who have not come back to church that they should feel comfortable to do so. The number of those at Mass goes up every week. So far, there has been no need to have another Mass in the Maria Room. But we are prepared in case there is a need for an additional Mass.
It really feels so good to see you in person even if we just wave hands at one another or do “air hugs.” But most especially, it is so good to receive the Eucharist. Our gospel reading this weekend brings that to mind as we hear about the multiplication of the loaves and the fish.
Speaking of the Eucharist, I ask your prayers for the children of the parish who are going to begin receiving their First Holy Communion at certain Masses during the coming weeks. Their reception of the Eucharist had to be postponed because of the lockdown. Pray that they will grow in their appreciation of this sacrament and will continue to receive it regularly along with their parents and families.
I also urge you to visit our parish website and Facebook page. Besides parish announcements and archdiocesan news, we also post some virtual activities done by the young people in our youth ministry program. When you see them in person, or if you know them, kindly extend your appreciation for their love of God and our community.
I am personally edified in listening to them. These young people are full of energy and endowed with different talents. They are also full of hope that things will get better in this world. I applaud their parents and guardians for bringing them up as good Christians. I hope and pray that they will live out the positive values and knowledge they learn at home and in our Youth Ministry program.
Take care of yourselves by staying safe and well.
God bless you all!
Love,
Father Marty
