Parish Rosary Crusade

History

The rosary crusade at Our Lady of Mercy began in January 1988 as the parish life component of our 25th anniversary celebration. The objective is to have at least one family praying the rosary each night for the intentions of the whole parish.

We started with one image of the Blessed Mother, under her title of Our Lady of Fatima. Sr. Eugenie Andres, SSJ, was the coordinator, assisted by Presy Lorenzo. The image visited 52 homes during that anniversary year. There were requests from more parishioners to host the image, and a second image was added, that of Our Lady of Mercy. Both wooden images were hand carved by artisans from the Philippines, and were donated to the parish by the late Mrs. Narcisa Lorenzo.

Host Families

On December 1 of every year, families are invited to host either one of the two images for the following year. Sign –ups can be made either by phone or by e-mail. Prospective hosts are asked to give their name, address, phone number, e-mail, and the Sunday they wish to receive the image. The coordinators share this information only with the two host families transporting and receiving the images. Host families pray with friends and relatives for a week, from Sunday to Saturday. The images are transported to the next host families always on a Sunday.

Blessing of Images

All host families are invited to attend the 12:00 noon mass on the 1st Sunday of January, when both images are blessed. Host families for the last week in December transport the images back to Our Lady of Mercy Church for the mass. After mass, host families for the first week in January take the images home, where friends and relatives may join in praying the rosary. On the second Sunday of January, they transport the images to the next set of host families. This pattern continues throughout the year, until the images “come home” again.
