Guidelines for Lectors / Readers

January 18, 2017

Dear Reader / Lector,

Thank you for serving our parish as a reader / lector. Because of your ministry, God’s life-giving word is proclaimed during the liturgy.

Because we have made some minor changes in how readers and extraordinary ministers function at Sunday Mass, we have revised the guidelines for these ministries. Our updated parish guidelines for readers / lectors are attached. Please review them and keep them in mind when serving at Mass.

Also, if you have never attended the workshop for readers sponsored by the Archdiocese of Newark, I would encourage you to do so. This workshop will help you to better appreciate your ministry and will help you to improve your skills.

The workshop covers understanding the scriptures, the structure of the liturgy of the word, the cycle of readings, and public speaking. Those who have attended past workshops have found them very helpful.

The next workshop for readers will take place Saturday, January 28, at the Archdiocesan Center in Newark. We will leave OLM at 8 am and return by 1 pm. The workshop fee will be covered by the parish. If you would like to attend, please speak to me after Mass, send me an email (FatherTom2013@gmail.com) or call the parish office (201-434-7500). Those who attend this workshop will be officially recognized at a Sunday Mass here at our parish.

Thank you again for your willingness to give of your time and talent to serve the Lord and to serve our parish.

Love,
Fr. Tom Iwanowski
