Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Mercy,
I hope this finds you safe and well.
We are at the end of August and getting closer to the celebration of our parish feast, the feast of Our Lady of Mercy. We will celebrate our feast the weekend of September 19 & 20.
You may have seen or heard announcements about preparing video presentations for our website as a way of celebrating our parish feast day. We came up with that idea since we cannot gather in person due to the coronavirus pandemic. As long as we do not have an effective vaccine, we are not safe. So please send us your videos and greetings to make this event special. Follow the directions posted on our website and in this bulletin. We would like to hear from you.
We are continuing to do our best to be safe and protected from the virus. That is why we urge you to always follow all precautionary measures –wear a face covering and keep appropriately distanced from others. We do this so that we can join in celebrating and receiving the Eucharist. As Sunday’s responsorial psalm says, “My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God.”
Also, your physical presence in church is a clear sign that you are faithful followers of Christ. You literally take up the cross of this pandemic and come and follow Him. “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.” (Matthew 16:24)
Brothers and sisters, let us continue to make an extra effort to follow God’s will in our lives and pray that this pandemic may be over soon. May we do our best to deal with all the challenges brought on by the coronavirus and by what is happening around us, be it personally, globally and politically. We entrust everything into God’s hands as we try to do our part as good Christians and citizens.
I would like to remind the parents and guardians, who have children in our Faith Formation program, that registration is now open and available online for the new year. Please check out the bulletin and parish website for more information or contact Jeng Villa at 201-434-7500 ext. 102.
Thank you and God bless us all! Take care of yourselves by staying safe and well.

More First Communions at Our Parish Last Weekend
Because of the closure of our church, the children who were to receive First Communion in May were unable to do so. The children are now receiving their First Communion during August at our 5 pm and Noon Masses. CHRISTIAN, ELLIJOHN, LORENZO, and TALIYAH shared at the Table of the Lord this past weekend, August 22 & 23.
Baptisms at OLM Last Sunday
Two children were baptized by our pastor, Father Marty, last Sunday afternoon, August 23. May the Lord bless them and may their parents, godparents, and family members help these two girls to grow in the Catholic faith and as members of God’s Church.
We have resumed our usual schedule for the Sacrament of Penance / Reconciliation. One of the priests is available for confessions Monday through Saturday, following the 8:30 am Mass. Confessions are heard from 9 am to 9:30 am in the daily Mass chapel. Use the door located in the church vestibule.
The Sacrament of Baptism
We have resumed the celebration of Baptisms. They are now being celebrated on designated Sunday afternoons. To inquire about a baptism, contact the parish office (201-434-7500). Deacon Meynardo Espeleta, who coordinates our baptism program, will then be in touch with more information.
